16 – 19 Discretionary Bursary Fund

If you are aged 16 – 19 at the start of the academic year, you will be able to apply for the 16 – 19 Discretionary Bursary, which is paid to students whose household income is below £21,000.

Payments are made following each half-term holiday providing attendance and punctuality are at least 96% with no unauthorised or unexplained absences. The amount received varies depending on the number of students entitled to the award.  Application forms are provided at enrolment. Applications can be made throughout the year, but if eligible payments will only be made for the half terms following submission.

CFGS Trustees Bursary

The Trustees of Central Foundation Girls' School have established a bursary for Year 13 students who progress onto university worth a total of £6000 over the 3 years of their degree.

Students wishing to apply will be invited to complete the application form in the Spring Term of Year 13. The successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of their enrolment at university at the start of the Spring Term of their 1st, 2nd and 3rd year at university to receive their annual instalment of:

Year 1 = £1000

Year 2 = £2000

Year 3 = £3000

Further information will be available on how to apply will be given to Year 13 students at the start of the process.


Discounted Travel

LB Tower Hamlets Mayor’s Education Award

Tower Hamlets runs a Mayors Education Award for students living in LB Tower Hamlets who are in full time education aged 16 – 19 with a household of low income.  Applications are made direct to LB Tower Hamlets and more information can be found at
