New Students

Welcome to the School Life pages. Here you can find out about life at Central Foundation Girls’ School and access information that will help you to settle in quickly.

We look forward to meeting you and we know that you will have a really happy time here.   At CFGS you will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of subjects and activities. Sports, music, dance, art, drama, movie making, ice skating, horse riding, go-karting are some of the opportunities and experiences that are waiting for you.
Leaving your primary school and moving to the new, much bigger world of secondary education can feel worrying and stressful. Our aim is to make all our new students feel welcome and safe so that at the onset of Year 7 you make a great start to what will hopefully be some of the best years of your life.

We provide a huge number of services to welcome you all into our school community.

Central+ YEArS 5 & 6 Wednesday Club

Our Wednesday Club is run after school during the summer term and exclusively for Year 5 and 6 students that are interested in joining Central Foundation.  It runs over two five week blocks either side of the half term from April to May and June to July.  Club members take part in introductory fun lessons, play games, make friends and go on trips to local activities such as the cinema and bowling.

Welcome to Central – May Half Term

Over the May Half Term, we hold a ‘Welcome to Central’ course students interested in joining that are currently in Year 5 or 6.  Over these two days your daughter will meet staff and teachers, get to know about her new school, what happens where, how to get around, what lessons are like and how to get the best out of her time in school.  The second day will give her the opportunity to sample some of our Central + activities, that include Horse Riding, Ice Skating and Cooking.

Summer School

Thanks to funding from the Department for Education we have run a special two-week summer school for all those Year 6 students making the transfer into Central Foundation and also for those in Year 5 that are interested in joining us.  This programme is completely free and provides an English, Maths and Science boost to all pupils attending, as well as an introduction to Central +.   The Summer School has been designed to do four things for your daughter:

  • Transform her transition to Secondary School by supporting her to make friends, learn her way around school and get to know teachers and staff
  • Challenge her as she enters Secondary School through a balance of academic and fun activities that will inspire and excite her
  • Value her as a member of the Central Foundation community, by providing outstanding educational opportunities and enabling her to discover how we all succeed and strive to be our best
  • Empower her to take on her own challenges in English, Maths and Science

Our experience has shown us that students who participate in our Summer School are:

•      More likely to achieve well
•      Make more progress in Year 7 than those who don’t attend
•      More likely to make friends and settle quickly into school

If you are interested in taking part in any of the transition activities please contact
