Careers Advice Print E-mail

The Work-Related Learning and Careers team provides support to all students in the form of Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to help them prepare for their future. Our work supports the IAG provided by Form Tutors, Subject Teachers and Leaders. Our role includes arranging appointments with Careers Advisors for all pupils who need them. We also arrange Educational visits to Universities, City Institutions, Museums and various organisations to learn about opportunities in learning and work. All students undertake Work Experience placements of at least one week where they learn about the world of work in more detail. They participate in a Work Experience Preparation Programme before they begin their placements.

This programme includes CV writing workshops, team building exercises and practice interview sessions for each student. These activities involve volunteers from various organisations within the local business community. Students also have the opportunity to learn financial capability skills through our annual Money Week programme. This programme consists of assemblies with experienced people from the financial sector and individual class sessions or workshops about University finance and budgeting. These are delivered by charitable organisations and banking institutions.

We have a fully-resourced careers library in the main College Terrace Centre Campus. Careers Interviews are conducted here so that students can access information about their choices as a follow up to their careers interviews. Appointments can be made to discuss any issues with a Connexions Personal Advisor as we recognise that things such as finance, relationships and academic ability have a different impact on career decisions. Our work complies with the IAG Quality Standards.
