Adult Numeracy Print E-mail

Course:1 year

Level 1 – equivalent to ½ a GCSE at Grade D or above.
Level 2 – equivalent to ½ a GCSE at Grade C or above.

Exam Board:Edexcel.

Minimum subject specific entry requirements: A grade D or below in GCSE Mathematics.

Course Content:

All students who achieve a grade E in GCSE Mathematics will be entered for
Adult Numeracy Level 2. Those with an F or below will be entered for Level 1.
The Adult Numeracy qualification comes under the Skills for Life umbrella
and can be taken by learners of any age. It is a nationally recognised, stand
alone qualification that enables you to gain the basic key skills they require
in Mathematics.

You will study the areas of maths relating to:
• Number
• Measure, Shape and Space
• Handling Data

Assessment:

For Levels 1 and 2 in Numeracy you will undertake multiple-choice tests. These are the same as the Key Skills Levels 1 and 2 tests for Application of Number. ALAN tests are onscreen and on-demand at Level 1 and Level 2 and for Numeracy. Both tests follow the same assessment design whereby each qualification is a single, onscreen test.

This course will suit you if you are looking to either progress onto a GCSE Mathematics course or gain an alternative qualification:

Level 1 – equivalent to ½ a GCSE at Grade D or above
Level 2 – equivalent to ½ a GCSE at Grade C or above

Progression:

Students who successfully complete ALAN Level 1 are expected to work towards completing Level 2 within the same academic year. Students who successfully complete ALAN Level 2 are expected to work towards completing GCSE Higher Tier within the same academic year.
