Course Content:

AS Units consist of:

Texts in Time: This unit will involve wide reading of texts from a specific period of time in literature. The theme you will study is the Struggle for Identity in Modern Literature.

Creative Study: This unit will involve responding to a prose and drama text and producing a coursework portfolio.

A2 students take AS and then the following units:

Thematic Texts: This unit will involve wide reading on texts on the theme of Love Through the Ages and responding to unprepared extracts.

Comparative Texts: This unit focuses on three texts, including a Shakespeare
play and will involve writing an extended comparative essay.

Assessment:

AS • 1 x exam – June • 1 x internally assessed coursework portfolio – April
A2 • 1 x exam – June • 1 x internally assessed coursework essay – April

This course will suit you if you enjoy reading and engaging in critical debate about texts.

Progression:

English Literature is a well-established subject giving at AS and A2 level a qualification for higher study in a wide range of specialist subjects and an excellent training in communication which is valued by employers.
