Exam Board: Edexcel

Minimum subject specific entry requirements: Grade C in English Language and a grade C
in either a Humanities subject or Citizenship.

Course Content:

AS Units consist of:

Unit One: People and Politics
Topic Studied : Democracy, Elections, Pressure Groups, Political Parties
Unit Two: Governing the UK
Topic Studied : UK Constitution, Parliament, Judiciary, Executive
A2 students take AS plus the following units:
Unit Three: UK Political Issues
Topic Studied : Economy , Welfare State, The Environment, Education, Health
Unit Four: EU Political Issues
Topic Studied : EU Institutions, EU Policies, The UK and the EU

Assessment:

AS Unit One: Exam - 1 hour 20 minutes
Unit Two: Exam - 1 hour 20 minutes
A2 Unit Three: Exam - 1 hour 30 minutes
Unit Four: Exam - 1 hour 30 minutes

This course will suit you if you have a keen interest in current affairs and what’s going on around the world. The course is based around independent study, class discussions and essay writing.

Progression:

The course can be used for a range of different employment and study opportunities including journalism, law, broadcasting and work in the field of politics e.g. local government, civil service and public relations.
