Course Content: AS Units consist of:

Unit 1 - Foundation Production
Produce a 5 minute local radio newscast
Unit 2 - Key Media Concepts
Become familiar with the codes and conventions of TV Dramas and gain an
understanding of textual analysis, representation, institutions and audiences.
A2 consists of AS plus the following units:
Unit 1 - Advance Production
(Make a Short Film (with supporting radio trailer and poster)
Unit 2 - Critical Perspectives in Media
(i) Theoretical Evaluation of Production
(ii) Contemporary Media Issues - A study of Collective
Identity or Media in the Online Age

Assessment:

This course is assessed through a combination of coursework and exam.

This course will suit you if you:

• Enjoy and appreciate the media’s role in our lives
• Are interested in how media technology is developing
• Are interested in how people use the media
• Engage easily with films, television, radio and ICT
• Are fascinated with how media products are made and distributed.

Teaching Methods:

You will have the opportunity to take part in discussions, hands-on practical
experiences, working with industry professionals, independent study, presentations,
course work and written exams.

Progression:

Media Studies opens up opportunities for employment in Journalism, Media Law, Education, Advertising, Video Gaming and the general Media sector. It also makes employment links with the following sectors: Technology, the Creative Arts and Communication. As the world continues to become more media/technology driven every profession is finding it more essential to have staff who are media literate and proficient at media production.
