Minimum subject specific entry requirements: Grade C in GCSE RE and English Language.

Course Content:

AS Units consist of:
Islam: covering topics including:
• Life of Muhammed (P.B.U.H)
• The revelation of the Qur’an including an in depth study of Surah’s 1 & 96
• The role of the mosque
Ethics: areas including:
• Ethical Philosophy
• Medical Ethics and War
• Applied Ethics
A2 consists of AS plus the following units:
Islam: areas including:
• Articles of Belief
• Differences between Sunni and Shi’a Muslims
• Surah 4
Ethics: areas including:
• The conscience
• Do humans have free will?
• Ethics in business and the environment

Assessment:

AS Level - each unit is assessed by a 1 hour and 30 minutes exam
A2 Level - each unit is assessed by a 1 hour and 30 minutes exam

This course will suit you if you:

• enjoy discussion and debate
• independent study and research
• essay writing
• doing presentations
• group work

Progression:

Religious Studies develops skills of writing analysis and expression. It is on a level that has considerable value for many professions such as law, journalism and politics and it is also about understanding some difficult issues.
