Course Outline Sociology is the study of different individuals and groups within society and the influence of gender, social class, ethnicity and age on an individuals life chances. Entry Requirements Minimum of grade C in GCSE Sociology and GCSE English Language. If you have not studied GCSE Sociology then you must have a minimum of grade C in either GCSE History, Geography or Religious Education. You are likely to study: AS Units The Family: You will look at the role of the family in contemporary Britain and the effect of historical and social changes on family structure. Education and Sociological Methods: This unit looks at a variety of issues covered on the topic of education i.e. why do working class children under perform compared to middle class children? A2 Units Beliefs in Society: You will look at a variety of issues surrounding the roe of religion, for example the role and formation of sects and cults. Crime and Deviance: This unit is a synoptic paper which will encourage you to make links with other parts of the course as well as investigating the notion of crime and crime trends in society. AS Units The Family: Exam Beliefs in Society: Exam Sociology is a subject that allows you to obtain further understanding of individuals and groups within society.
