BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design (Level 2) Print E-mail

This qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A - C.

Exam Board: Edexcel

Minimum subject specific entry requirements: Mainly D and E grades, including GCSE Art and Design Or Distinction at Level 1. An interest in Art and Design and enthusiasm.

Course Content:

This is a general Art and Design course with an emphasis on painting, textiles and making in 3D. You will learn by completing projects that are based on the real world of Art and Design, its activities and demands.

The course helps you develop your art and design skills through three, clear structured assignments and careful tuition. Students generate a range of ideas through painting and drawing and then go on to make a range of substantial final pieces using a different materials and techniques including acrylic paint, clay, plaster, wood, wire, printing and embroidery. All 3 assignments have a strong direction but students are also encouraged to pursue personal ideas and outcomes.

During the course students go on at least three trips, to galleries and museums, in order to collect information for their work and will have the opportunity to work with an artist to learn how and why they make their work.

Assessment:

You will complete 3 units of work, all of which are coursework based and will be assessed internally and a grade awarded.

This course will suit you if you enjoy making artwork and discussing your own and others art.

Progression:

The Level 2 Diploma gives you a good portfolio of work which will enable you to go onto a higher level of study such as a Level 3 National Award in Art and
Design. Students may progress into a range of art and design related careers, such as: Advertising, Graphic Design, Freelance Photography, Marketing, Fabric / Textile Design, Interior Design.
