Level 1 BTEC Health and Social Care Print E-mail

Level 1 BTEC Certificate and Award in Health and Social Care Course: 1 year - Level 1 BTEC Certificate and Award.

This qualification is equivalent to GCSE grade D - G.

Exam Board: OCR.

Minimum subject specific entry requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, though GCSE F and G grades or Entry Level 3 would be beneficial.

You will need to take a written English assessment test to determine your level of literacy.

Course Content: You will study 8 number of units, including:

Unit 1: Working As A Team In Health and Social Care. You will learn how to work as part of a team and understand how teams work together in a health and social care setting.

Unit 2: Investigating Health and Social Care Provision. You will learn about what health, social care and early years’ provision is available, how it is organised and describe the main types of care provided.

Unit 3: Introducing Practical Caring. You will learn to carry out a risk assessment and to know how to maintain a safe and secure environment in care settings.

Unit 4: Preparing for work

Unit 5: Communication

And 3 other topics such as:

• Childcare
• Taking part in work experience
• Relationships
• Dealing with minor accidents in care settings

Assessment:

All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. There are no timetabled examinations for this qualification. This course will suit you if you like spending time with vulnerable people, such as babies, children or elderly and are a caring person. You want to develop your communication and interpersonal skills and gain an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare for work within the health and social care sector.

Progression:

• Take a qualification at level 2 in Health & Social Care, Child Care or a
different subject e.g. Business, Travel and Tourism, Forensic Science
or Hair & Beauty
• Go on to a work based training course e.g.
NVQ in Hospitality or Child Care
• Enter employment as a childcare assistant, care assistant working
with the elderly or people with special needs, Plaster Technician.
