GCSE Mathematics Re-take Print E-mail

1 year - GCSE.

Exam Board: Edexcel.

Minimum subject specific entry requirements:
A grade D in GCSE Mathematics Or Level 2 Adult Literacy.

Course Content:

All students who achieve a grade D in GCSE Mathematics, or Level 2 Adult Numeracy will be entered for GCSE Mathematics.

Students will be taught the knowledge, skills and understanding contained
in this specification through:

• Activities that ensure they become familiar with and confident using
standard procedures for the range of calculations appropriate to this
level of study.
• Solving familiar and unfamiliar problems in a range of numerical,
algebraic and graphical contexts and in open-ended and closed form.
• Using standard notations for decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio
and indices.
• Activities that show how algebra, as an extension of number using
symbols, gives precise form to mathematical relationships
and calculations.

Assessment:

Examinations will be available twice a year, in June and November. Two papers (on separate sittings) each of 1 hour 45 mins with the first a non-calculator paper and the second a calculator allowed paper.

This course will suit you if you need a Grade C in Mathematics for further
studies or employment.

Progression:

Students who complete successfully the GCSE Linear Higher Tier will successfully progress onto other Level 3 courses.
