Teacher in Charge Mr A. Locke Ms A. Aiken We are concerned with the impact of media on contemporary society. We examine and analyse the relationships between audiences, products and institutions. Mass audience theories are usually applied in the analytical processes. Additionally, we explore the issues and debates at the heart of the media industry, especially those regarding regulation, morality and ethics. However, there is also a practical side to our work. We are also involved in the creative production process and we endeavour to use media equipment and software to create texts that reflect our views of the world. How We Do It Most of what we do is achieved through research, discussion, planning and brainstorming. Teamwork is an essential skill in Media Studies because there are many roles and responsibilities in the production process. We work with still images, as well as audio and visual software, including iMovie, Garage Band, and Audacity. Textual Analysis is at the core of our work, as it helps us to identify the codes and conventions of media texts, and in turn serve as a guide to our own production. However, we often challenge these conventions and create ‘outside the box’. |
