Gifted and Talented Print E-mail
The school identifies some students in each year group as gifted and talented. We provide specialist programmes for these students to enable them to excel in specialist areas or to enhance their identified talent.

A Gifted student demonstrates exceptional academic ability in one or more subjects and/or exceptional cognitive abilities. A Talented student demonstrates exceptional ability in one or more Practical subject. A student identified as Gifted and Talented will demonstrate exceptional ability in both academic and practical subjects.

Cognitive Ability Test Results will be used at the start of year to identify academic ability. Students who achieve 110 or above in two or more areas* will be identified for the official G&T register.  Subject areas will also nominate students based on their criteria for Gifted/Talent in their subject. This data will also be recorded in SIMs

CATs data

CATs (Cognitive Ability Test) assesses three areas of a students ability to reason and each can indicate a students potential for a particular areas of learning:

Numerical — Mathematics
Verbal — English (Language Comprehension and expression)
Non-Verbal – Science (Abstract ideas)
These abilities are also demonstrated  in other academic subjects.

Entitlement

G&T students are entitled to differentiated support in class and to extended provision suited to their needs which stretches and challenges them. G&T students will be given the opportunity to work with students similar to their ability outside of the school. The school will work with outside providers to support G&T progress to higher education.

Aim

At CFGS our Practical subject areas are already providing a variety of activities for talented students. Therefore our aim this year is to develop the G&T provisions in academic subjects. Please complete the form at the back of the leaflet if you would like your daughter to attend the clubs and return to Ms Jahan.
