Sex and Relationship Education Print E-mail

Sex and Relationship education is a key aspect of the school curriculum. Our aims are to ensure that :

• Appropriate and responsible sex and relationship education should be an integral part of the learning process, preparing young people for their lives now and in the future.
• All students should have equal access to suitable sex and relationship education, which is appropriate to their different ages, stages of development and cultural background.
• The sex and relationship education programme should encourage exploration of values and moral issues, consideration of sexuality and personal relationships, as well as the development of communication and informing decision-making skills.
• To promote self-esteem, self-awareness, respect for others, a sense of moral responsibility and the skills to avoid and resist unwanted sexual experience.
• To address issues such as the role of women and men in society.

Key Values

• Recognising individual responsibility and the need to respect others regardless of age, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation.
• Recognising that freedom of choice means responsibility for yourself and others.
