School Library

At Central Foundation Girls' School we have two libraries:

The library at the Harley Grove site is used mostly by students from Years 7 to 10 who are based on this site and use this facility.

The library at the College Terrace Centre is used by Year 11, 6th Form students and staff. (It houses 35 networked computers and seats 60).

The library staff team has a manager and two part-time library assistants.

 In the library areas we:

  • Encourage reading for pleasure as well as for information.
  • Provide resources to support coursework and homework assignments.
  • Provide a calm, orderly and supportive environment for reading and study.
  • We are open to students before and after school and during break time and lunchtime. Teachers can book the library for classes, small groups and individuals to carry out research during lesson time.
  • Study Support is held from 3.30 - 5.00pm in both libraries. Students can use any of the resources in the libraries and can borrow fiction and non-fiction resources. In addition to the networked educational software programmes, the school subscribes to a selection of e-resources such as Fact File Online, Issues online and Sam Learning.
  • Students can book the computers to use at lunchtime by speaking with someone at the library desk.

The library at Harley Grove has lots of resources for students to use plus a small staff library. We run the Cover to Cover book club for students who like to buy books. Our student helpers run a stationary shop. There are several computers, a scanner, a printer, TV/video player and a listening station.

We have close links with the Idea Store Bow and the Tower Hamlets Schools Library Service. It is free to join your local Idea Store, and for children and young people under 16 there are no charges for requests or overdue books.  With an Idea Store library card, you can borrow books, films and music, have free use of the Internet and get information for homework or leisure activities. Click here for more information.
