Student Support Print E-mail

Sixth Form classes tend to be smaller than for Year 11 and as a result you are able to build up a much closer relationship with your teachers. Your progress is constantly monitored so that you know exactly how you are doing.

When you enrol, you will be put into a Form Group with students studying similar level courses to you. These groups range from 15 - 25 students. You will have regular contact with and support from your Form Tutor, as not only will they register you each morning, but you will have an individual Tutorial appointment with them every few weeks. These Tutorial appointments are a chance for you to discuss your progress, any issues that arise as well as plan towards your future once you leave CFGS.

As well as your Form Tutor, you will have regular contact with your subject teachers who will agree targets with you and identify how you can achieve them. Subject teachers not only provide the specific knowledge you need to pass exams and coursework, but also the support and guidance to ensure you work to your potential. One reason why so many of our own students come back into the Sixth Form is because they value the support that teachers have given them during their previous courses.

Reports are sent home every term outlining your progress, effort and predicted grades. Your form tutor will ensure you are keeping on track including your attendance and punctuality. They will help you with the next step of your career whether it is applying for university or providing a reference for employment.

The Head of Sixth Form, Ms Quinn and Assistant Head of Sixth Form, Ms Cannon are always available to help students with any aspect of their education, as well as a team of Support Staff based in the CTC General Office.

As a Sixth Former at CFGS you will have:

• Regular contact with your form tutor who is always there to provide help and support.
• Close contact with your subject teachers who will agree targets with you and identify how you can achieve them.
• The opportunities for an interview with the Head of Sixth Form to discuss your progress.
• Regular reports which will include comments on effort and attainment and will be used to update your Progress File.
• A Testimonial or Open Reference upon completion of your course which you can take with you to employers, universities or training providers.
