Student E-Safety Guidelines for all ICT use (including within and outside of school)
Golden rule - We ask all students to act safely and responsibly when using computers, laptops, phones and the Internet. If you receive or come across anything on the internet that makes you feel uncomfortable – tell an adult.
Some people on the internet are not who they say they are so be careful who you chat to and make friends with on Social Networking sites like Snapchat, Instagram and when playing computer games.
Do not become ‘friends’ with people on social networking sites whom you have not met in person.
Never agree to meet anyone you have met online without telling an adult first
• I understand I must report any worries I have to an adult.
• I understand to always ask my parent/guardian for permission to meet people that I have met online.
Do not put any personal information online and ensure your privacy settings are high. Check your privacy settings regularly to make sure they are up-to-date. Using a nickname online can keep you safe.
Don’t post personal information online like email addresses, home or school addresses or mobile phone numbers to people you do not know. Do not give information about clubs you are attending or where you are at specific times of the day.
Only post photographs which you would be happy with your parents seeing and make sure they don’t show where you or others live. Once a photograph has been put online, you can never get it back or stop it being sent to others, even if you delete it.
Do not share your passwords and log in details as people could access your information without your permission.
Never send any video clips, films, pictures or documents that are in any way inappropriate, offensive or illegal.
• I understand to keep my personal information safe
• I understand to only send appropriate, legal content via internet, or using technology.
Always respect others - cyberbullying is not acceptable and does cause distress to others. This is now an offence, the police can be called and people can be charged with harassment. Treat people as you would like to be treated.
• I understand not to use digital technology to write hurtful comments, bully or make threats.
