Headteacher's weekly update: 15/01/2021

Dear Students and Families,

We hope that you are all safe and well. As we come to the end of week two of remote learning, students and teachers are developing greater confidence in this way of working. Thank you to staff and students for their perseverance, and of course to our families who are supporting their daughters at home. A significant number of families have requested laptops to support their daughters' learning. Staff have been working tirelessly to set these up in batches, and we have managed to issue over 200 to date.

In other news, we held our first remote parent consultation evening for Year 11 on 14th January. Turn-out was excellent, and that is in part due to the commitment of our teachers and parents in recognising the importance of home-school collaboration, in support of all students who attend CFGS.

Families may be aware that Ofqual are due to open a consultation on the summer exams / assessments for GCSE and A Level, following the announcement of the cancellation of the exams and use of teacher assessed grades. We understand the frustrations for students and parents in not knowing what the expectations are at present. As soon as schools and colleges have been notified of the plan and processes for this year, we will share this with you. For the time being we continue to ask that all students in Years 11 and 13 continue to engage with their learning, as the work they complete over the duration of their GCSE / A Level courses, will be used as evidence for grading.

Finally, I hope you have had an opportunity to see our recent Twitter @CFGSschool and Facebook @cfgsschool posts, where we have shared the excellent news that two of our Year 13 students have received offers from Oxford to study Medicine and Law respectively. In addition you will see student messages that were sent to staff as part of our 'staff appreciation week' in December. Do follow us as we share a number of the messages over the coming weeks.

Wishing you all a good week ahead, and that you stay safe and well.

Ms E. Holland
