Academic Support: Learning Lounge and Learning Hub
The Learning Lounge is one of the many facilities at Central Foundation Girls’ School focused on improving student’s ability to access the curriculum and make progress in their learning. The Learning Lounge runs Monday – Thursday at 3:15pm to 4:30pm and is based at the heart of the school in the Faraday suite. On arrival students receive refreshments and a healthy snack before the sessions begin.
The Learning Lounge is managed by Benjamin Martin (Masters in Mathematics from Trinity College Cambridge, and a PhD in Computational Physics from Imperial College London) and staffed by Queen Mary University students, who offer a bespoke tutoring service delivered in four week blocks focused on Maths, English and Science.
Attached to The Learning Lounge is a Homework support centre staffed by CFGS Sixth Form students. This area is often used for quiet study, with Sixth Form students offering help and advice on any homework issues that arise.
At The Learning Lounge there is full access to computers and a printing service. This provision is regularly attended by members of CFGS Senior Leadership Team.
The KS4 Learning Hub is a supervised safe study space for Years 10 and 11 students to attend for homework and revision, students have access to a computer and printer if needed, refreshments are provided. The Learning Hub also offers a free English, Maths and Science tuition programme delivered by Queen Mary undergraduates. The Hub is open Monday-Thursday 3:30-4:30pm.
