Mathematics
Maths at CFGS is fun because it is challenging and the teachers push you to do your best
At CFGS maths is very enjoyable because we do fun activities that help with our learning
Students are set from Year 7 through to Year 11 (they are placed according to their level and are able to move between sets depending on their progress).
Students are also encouraged to work with the mathematics they encounter in everyday life: estimating the cost of a shopping bill, comparing supermarket offers and working out best buys, reading information from maps and timetables, adapting recipes and developing their understanding of money management such as budgeting, bank accounts and credit.
We take part in a variety of annual competitions aimed to enrich pupils’ mathematical understanding. These include the UKMT, UKMT Team Challenge, Sumdog, World Education Day and we have a weekly Maths Problem that pupils can enter to solve and win prizes.
Please note: the list of topics covered will vary depending on your child’s maths set.
