Why CFGS Sixth Form?
LIFE IN CFGS SIXTH FORM
Life as a Sixth Form student at CFGS offers many opportunities enabling you to excel both academically and socially. We have a wide range of courses from Level 2 to Level 3, with over 20 subjects offered at ‘A’ Level. For those of you who prefer coursework to exams we offer Level 3 BTEC courses, which is 80% coursework and 20% exams and can currently be taken as either a 3 A Level equivalent, or a 1 A Level equivalent combined with 2 A Levels. We expect you to work to the best of your ability to achieve the highest possible grades.
We encourage you to take an active role in the life of the school and local community as part of the student leadership team as ambassadors, form representatives or as our Head Girl, Deputy Head Girl and Senior Prefects. There are also opportunities for you to inspire and mentor younger students, to do voluntary work and work experience. From September 2020 all Year 12 students will be working towards completing the Student Leadership Award.
We offer expert careers advice to prepare you for life at university, on apprenticeship courses, in training or in employment. Over 88% of our students attend university every year many of them at Russell Group universities.
Our team of experienced and dedicated teachers and tutors will help you to achieve your ambitions in a vibrant and friendly Sixth Form.
Your curriculum offer will, subject to you meeting our entry criteria, allow you to study subjects suited to your own strengths and ambitions. You will have personal study time where you are expected to use the time productively in order to consolidate your learning and complete assignments. We expect to see a determined effort from our students throughout the day, and if we are concerned that you are not using your time productively you will be allocated to supervised study.
From the moment you enrol you will be placed in a form group other students studying similar courses and will share a Form Tutor who will be there to support and encourage you from the day you start to the day you leave. You will see your tutor and fellow tutees every morning during registration and extended form time for lively debates and activities, and will have frequent 1-to-1 Tutorial sessions for in-depth discussion and advice about your progress and ambitions.
One reason why we receive so many applications for the Sixth Form is the quality of teaching and the support you will receive from subject teachers, from individual help in lessons, to extra tuition sessions throughout the year. Our teachers are always friendly, approachable and willing to help you achieve the best you can.
You will be based in Aspire, our Sixth Form building on Bow Road, and lessons will take place in this building and our other campuses at Motivate and Explore (across the road).
