Year 6-7 Transition: Art, Design & Technology
Welcome to Art, Design and Technology!
We are looking forward to meeting you all when you start with us at CFGS and we have been planning exciting projects for you. You will have the opportunity to study both Art & Design and Design Technology at CFGS, some of this might be very new to you, but don’t worry, we know you will enjoy these subjects! You will normally have a different teacher for each of these subjects and this will build on some of the work you have done in primary school. You will get the chance to learn a lot of new skills and be creative in designing and making your own work. You will have your lessons in our specialist classrooms and will have access to new and exciting materials to use; for example you get to use computers to design your own products and then learn how to use the equipment in the workshop to make these.
In your Art lessons you will learn about artists from around the world and will develop your skills in painting, printmaking, ceramics as well as other materials. In Year 7 you will learn about colour and pattern and how to create our own portraits, you will make clay pots and experiment with making printmaking and sculpture. In Design Technology you will study Food Technology, Graphics, Product Design and Textiles, your teacher will move to specialist classrooms with you so you can learn how to use the different equipment. In Yr7 you will learn how to make your own fabric selfie doll, a motorised jitterbug in product design as well as cooking some great recipes!
All of the projects will help you to develop your skills, learn about artists, designers and craftspeople and to become curious and creative whilst having fun! There are opportunities for clubs and trips to galleries, there is even an international trip when you get to Year 10!
Year 7 have 100 minutes Art and Design per fortnight. Year 7 Design Technology has 150 minutes of lessons per fortnight.
