Year 6 - 7 Transition: Music
The CFGS music department is able to offer a huge wide of opportunities to our students, both inside and outside of the classroom. Music lessons in Year 7 will cover many different styles of music including pop music, orchestral music, film music and world musics such as Samba. Throughout these schemes of work you will have the chance to sing and play the range of instruments that we have in the department. At the moment our classroom lessons will provide you with the opportunity to perform on electronic keyboard/piano, a range of percussion instruments, as well ukulele and guitars!
We have a newly re-furbished department that is ready for you to use, including two classrooms, multiple practice rooms, a state-of-the-art recording studio, and music ICT equipment. We encourage any students that want practice in their own time (break times/lunchtime, after school) to come and use the practice rooms and instruments either alone or as a group to improve and enjoy your music making as much as possible.
Outside of classroom lessons we are also able to offer a range of instrumental lessons free of charge - and in some cases we can even loan you an instrument! At the moment we are able to offer lessons on violin, cello, voice, steel pans, guitar (electric or classical), bass guitar, piano/keyboard and drum kit. If you already learn an instrument and would like to continue, or would like to start learning at CFGS, just fill in the attached form and give it to a music teacher in September so that we can get you started! Alternatively you can collect a paper copy of the application form from the music department when you start at CFGS and then give it to a music teacher when it is completed.
As well as classroom lessons, the music department also runs a range of clubs at lunchtimes as well as regular concerts. These included a keyboard club, a Jazz ensemble, a Year 7 band, choir and a percussion group. Anyone that plays an instrument is welcome to come along so we hope to see as many of you getting involved as possible!
If you have any questions about music at CFGS before you join us in September, please email me on the this address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Looking forward to meeting you soon and making some music!
Mr Woollard, Head of Music
